Brownsville Parent Involvement Plan 2014-2015
Each fall Curriculum Night is held. Information about curriculum, assessments, and programs is provided. Staff members, including the LAP paraeducators, are introduced to parents. The LAP building coordinator, reading intervention teacher, and paraeducators are available throughout the evening to answer questions and provide information. The Parent Involvement and School Improvement Plans (SIP) are available for parent review at this time.
Throughout the school year information is provided to parents through direct communication, parent meetings, newsletters, and the Brownsville website. Each spring parents have an opportunity to give input on the Parent Involvement Plan and School Improvement Plan.
Brownsville Elementary focuses on family strengths and common goals when working with parents and students in areas of concern related to academics, discipline, and attendance. To enhance communication, formal meetings with the Brownsville LAP team share valuable student performance information and determine changes in the type and delivery of interventions. Parents are kept informed of their child’s program changes and progress through conferences and grade reporting. Interpreters for limited English speaking and deaf/hard-of-hearing parents will be provided as requested.
Staff and parents are actively involved in Student Success Team (SST) meetings. Their input is essential as we work together to determine the most appropriate interventions.
Communication of student progress is shared with parents at the end of each trimester and at parent conferences in November and March. Along with trimester progress reports, parents of students in LAP, receive newsletters and information regarding programs, special events, tips to help their child at home, as well as other helpful information. Parents are encouraged and welcome to request meetings at any item.
At all times parents are encouraged to provide input either orally or in writing regarding their child’s progress. Their ideas and opinions are taken seriously and always considered a top priority when developing learning plans and facilitating interventions.
There is an academic lending library in the intervention room which includes educational games, books and learning activities that can be checked out by the parents for use at home. During the primary Spring Reading Debut, the intervention room is open to parents, and LAP staff is on hand, in order to assist in and answer questions regarding the lending library.
Our School Improvement Plan guides our instruction to help ensure student success. Planning and annual review of the SIP takes place within our shared decision making team. The team includes teachers, paraeducators, the principal, and parent representation. All parents are welcome to review the plan at any time during the year.
